In 1948, Senator Pablo Neruda, a famous poet and communist, accused President Videla's government of treason in a fiery speech to the Chilean Congress and was removed from office. Neruda evades arrest and goes into hiding. In the midst of working on his epochal collection of poems, "Canto General," he attempts to leave the country with his wife. Soon the story of the poet on the run reaches Europe, and artists such as Pablo Picasso champion his cause. Meanwhile, the strange chase leads the adversaries to ever more remote regions. In the imposing mountains of the Chilean Cordillera, Neruda finally sets out to stage the final chapter of the duel...
