Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) delivers with his solo directorial debut "a masterpiece that simultaneously disgusts, dismays and fascinates." (filmstarts.com)
A pair of parents isolate their children from the outside world and raise them in an isolated house. In the process, they impart a distorted view of the world to the three youngsters. The world behind the garden hedge is supposedly an evil and dangerous place, and new meanings are ascribed to familiar everyday terms. Family life is characterized by emotionless discipline and the innocently perverse games of the three siblings, who use them to pass the time.
"The masterpiece of the Greek Yorgos Lanthimos is a bitterly surrealistic parable from the homeland." (rollingstone.com)
