French director René Vidal tries to make a vampire movie remake with Chinese actress Maggie Cheung, but loses control of the film crew. René sees in Maggie the ideal casting for Irma Vep, a feline vampire woman in a skin-tight latex costume, from Louis Feuillade's 1915 silent film "The Vampires." While chaos and intrigue run rampant on the set, film journalists are already calling for the end of auteur cinema, and costume designer Zoe develops a romantic interest in Maggie, she believes in the film. Olivier Assayas' sardonic parody and personal take on filmmaking in France, thanks to "Nathalie Richard’s naturalness is a constant pleasure, and graceful beauty Cheung is compelling, playing herself as a fish out of water capable of reacting to any situation with poise.“ (variety.com)
